A blood glucose meter is an important tool for keeping track of stable blood sugar levels. If you can maintain a consistent blood sugar level in everyday life, you are on the right track towards a satisfactory HbA1c value (long-term sugar). In diabetes, it is especially important to measure blood sugar levels. But it can also be helpful to check blood sugar levels in other metabolic diseases that affect your blood sugar or if you suffer from severe blood sugar fluctuations. Since you can test multiple different markers with the Quicktest measuring unit X6, the code chip is used to "explain" to the instrument that it should measure blood sugar level. The code chip is inserted only once if you only intend to measure blood sugar.
If you also want to measure any of the other markers, such as cholesterol or uric acid, the unique code chip for that test should be used first, in this way X6 gets information that you are testing a different parameter. The code chip can be reused.
Normal blood sugar levels depend on when you measure:
Before meals: 4-7 mmol/L
After meals (about 1.5 hours): less than 10 mmol/L
At bedtime: about 6-8 mmol/L
Blood sugar levels fluctuate throughout the day, making it difficult to determine the level based on a single blood sugar measurement. For the most reliable result, you should therefore measure your blood sugar level four times a day - before each main meal and just before bedtime. If you find that to be too much, you should measure once a day - either fasting in the morning or at bedtime.
Self-monitoring of blood sugar is common practice today. Some individuals must do it due to a diagnosis, but even otherwise healthy individuals can benefit from measuring their blood sugar, especially if there is a history of diabetes in the family. In case of abnormal levels, it is important to seek medical care for further investigation and possible treatment with medication.
