Having blood in your stool is relatively common, and it can be caused by many different things. The most common causes are haemorrhoids and anal fissures, which are usually harmless. In some cases, however, blood in the stool can be a sign of more serious conditions such as colon cancer or Crohn's disease. If you have blood in your stool, you should always consult a doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
Our self-test for blood in stool is a simple test that gives you immediate results. The test is called F-Hb, which stands for faecal haemoglobin. In simple terms, it detects the presence of blood in the stool.
It is known that haemorrhoids do not bleed all the time. Therefore, the stool should be collected for three consecutive days to increase the possibility of detecting intermittent bleeding. You can perform the test at home by testing your stool on a special paper, and then using a test strip that should be dipped into the stool. This strip is then placed in a tube containing a special dilution fluid. The fluid is dripped onto a test cassette. If there are traces of blood with a concentration higher than 10 ng/ml, the test will be positive. Note that the test does not require any special diet, as some other tests do.

Your stool should be examined if you have:
The test can be conducted at any time of the day when you have a bowel movement (able to pass stool).
The result is correct if the instructions are followed. The result can show an error if the test becomes wet before the test is performed or if the sample is contaminated with blood from a source other than stool (wounds, haemorrhoids, menstruation, etc.), and if the wrong number of drops is used.
The strength, colour or intensity of the control line has no impact or significance in interpreting the test result. If you can distinguish a line, this should be interpreted as a line. However, the lines should be full/saturated.
If the result is positive, it means that blood has been detected in the stool sample, and you should contact a doctor. The doctor will then decide on further examinations and treatment.
If the result is negative, it means that the test could not detect blood in the stool sample. Those who are 45 years or older or have relatives who suffer from colorectal cancer are recommended to perform a test every year.
The F-Hb test has been used for over ten years in healthcare. Evaluation reports show a reliability of at least 93% with various reference methods. Although this test is reliable, false positive or false negative results can be obtained.
