Our Calprotectin test detects elevated levels of calprotectin in faeces. Inflammatory conditions in the gastrointestinal tract (IBD) release calprotectin, and the marker can therefore be used to differentiate between IBD and IBS.
Recurring gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhoea, pain, cramps, decreased appetite, and weight loss may indicate inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) is characterized by chronic inflammation in the intestinal mucosa. IBD often has a common symptom pattern with IBS but can lead to permanent and more serious damage to the intestine. As there are significant differences in both consequences and treatment, it is important that those with digestive problems are diagnosed correctly and can begin individualized treatment with the support of gastroenterologists and dietitians. With Quicktest calprotectin test, you will get an answer within just a few minutes about whether you have elevated levels of calprotectin, which indicates chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Testing faecal calprotectin can also help exclude IBD so that more people with IBS can be detected and receive proper treatment. More information about research on IBD and IBS is available here.
Note that Quicktest Calprotectin test does not provide a diagnosis. The test is used to provide an indication. Always consult a doctor for further clinical investigation, diagnosis, and medical intervention.
IBD often begins between the ages of 15-40 and greatly affects the quality of life of those affected. Sometimes the disease is inactive, and sometimes it is active. The symptom pattern differs depending on the type of inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, but there are also significant similarities. Symptoms of IBD often include:
Some individuals with the IBD diseases ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease in the colon have an increased risk of developing colon cancer in the long term. Increased risk depends mainly on how much of the intestine has been inflamed and for how long.
The test can be performed when persistent or recurrent abdominal pain or diarrhea occurs. Rectal bleeding, weight loss, or anemia (low blood count) can also increase the likelihood of intestinal inflammation such as IBD. The test can be performed at any time of the day. The test cannot be performed on liquid stool. Therefore, you should consult your doctor before taking the test if you have liquid stool (diarrhea, etc.). Regular testing is recommended for people with chronic inflammatory bowel disease.
You can do the test at home with 96.4% reliability! Take a stool sample using a special collection strip. Collect stool from 3 different places with a collection stick and place it in a bottle with diluent. Shake it. The liquid is then dropped into a test cassette. Read the result after 10 minutes.
If the result is positive, the likelihood is high that you have an inflammatory bowel disease such as IBD, and you should consult a doctor. The doctor will then decide whether further tests are needed.
If the result is negative, it means that you are likely not suffering from an inflammatory bowel disease such as IBD. However, if the symptoms persist, the discomfort is likely due to functional bowel disease such as IBS, and you should consult a doctor. The doctor will then decide whether further tests are needed.
When investigating a patient with gastrointestinal symptoms, it is recommended to also take a stool test for calprotectin, a good marker for intestinal inflammation.
In cases where the medical history and examination suggest IBS, i.e. functional bowel disorders, a normal calprotectin value increases the likelihood that it is indeed IBS and not something else.
