Do you feel stressed, perhaps even burned out? High stress over a long period of time can lead to adrenal fatigue. This test analyzes the hormones Cortisol and DHEA and provides a measure of the body's adrenal function. If you are concerned about excessive stress, have suspicions of adrenal fatigue, or hormonal imbalances, it may be advantageous to measure DHEA and Cortisol.
Note that sample collection is performed at two separate times during a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Cortisol and DHEA are both hormones that are produced and secreted by the adrenal glands. Cortisol regulates energy and is produced in stressful situations. An elevated level of cortisol is therefore an indication of stress. In the hormone DHEAS (dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate), the body has developed a protective mechanism against the negative effects of stress. Therefore, the balance between cortisol and DHEA is particularly important.
When we are stressed and have high cortisol release over time, an imbalance can occur between the hormones, and the adrenal glands simply cannot maintain the production of the stress hormone cortisol. Tired adrenal glands mean that after a long period of intense stress, the production of the hormones cortisol and DHEA decreases. When the adrenal glands do not produce the hormones they should, the body's ability to manage stress and fight infections deteriorates. By measuring the levels one can detect any imbalances.
Your sex drive, sleep, stress, and weight management can be affected by your levels of DHEA. Low levels of DHEA can cause symptoms such as fatigue, depression, decreased sex drive, and weight gain, while high levels can lead to symptoms such as PCOS, acne, and hair loss. Since DHEA is a so-called prohormone, a precursor to other hormones in the body, it also affects the hormone balance for estrogen and testosterone.
Note that DHEA levels are linked to age, with the highest level in young adults and then declining with age.
Cortisol levels fluctuate during the day, and it is therefore important to take several measurements during a day to get your complete curve of adrenal cortisol production. A healthy cortisol curve should be highest in the morning and gradually decrease throughout the day. However, today, many people are troubled by stress, and it has become more common for curves that are too low, too high, too flat, or even reverse curves. Both low and high cortisol levels are associated with stress. Initially, stress leads to increased production of cortisol, but with prolonged stress, the production of cortisol decreases.
How safe and reliable is the test?
It is as safe and reliable as if you had it done within the healthcare system. This assumes, of course, that you follow the manual and send in the test within the specified time.
So I spit in a test tube and then you can analyze it?
Well, you'll have to insert a small cotton swab into your mouth. It looks like a pacifier, but it quickly absorbs your saliva. After a few minutes, it will be filled with saliva. You then push the saliva into a specially designed test tube. You screw the airtight cap on and then you just need to put the test tube in the return envelope provided and we'll take care of the rest.
When will I get the results?
You will get the results within a few days, usually within 5 working days, but we guarantee it within 8 days.
Am I completely anonymous? Will my doctor have access to my test results?
No, no one but you can see your test results. Not even we can see them. In theory, our lab can see your test results, but they won't see your name. In other words, you are completely anonymous.
Where is this test produced?
Everything is produced and quality-assured within the EU. Even the analysis is done within the EU. This means that your test result is handled by highly trained personnel with solid expertise.
