Ketosis is a state where the body uses fat as energy instead of carbohydrates. This happens, for example, when fasting or on a low-carbohydrate diet.
You can induce ketosis by drastically reducing the number of carbohydrates in your diet or by fasting. When the body does not get enough carbohydrates, it is forced to use glycogen to maintain stable blood sugar levels. Glycogen is stored in the liver and muscles. After a while, the body has also burned these stores, and this is when the body enters ketosis and starts burning fat.
You often feel when your body is in ketosis, but to know more precisely, you can easily measure with the Quicktest X6. A rule of thumb is that when you have 0.5 mmol ketones or more, you have entered ketosis. With the Quicktest X6 ketone test, your ketone levels are measured with a precision of +/- 0.1 mmol/L.
Note that this diet should not be used by those who have diabetes or who suspect they are in the early stages of diabetes.
Everything is included to perform 5 ketone tests: 5 ketone strips, 6 lancets (an extra one), and Quicktest X6.

Ketones are formed during the breakdown of fats, which occurs during starvation, fasting, or prolonged exercise. Ketones are used as an energy source by both the brain and muscles when the body runs out of carbohydrates. The levels of ketones in the blood are used as a measure of the ability to endure prolonged exercise as well as to determine if, during fasting, one is actually starting to burn their fat stores.
