The kidneys have many functions, one of the most important being to act as the body's own purification system and filter out small molecules from the blood. A blood test that measures the level of the substance albumin is used to indicate if there is any damage or disease in the kidneys or liver. Healthy kidneys filter waste from the blood but retain the healthy components, including proteins like albumin. Kidney damage can cause proteins to leak through the kidneys and into the urine. Albumin is one of the first proteins to leak out in case of kidney damage.
Quicktest Kidney Test is a microalbumin test that makes it possible to detect abnormal albumin concentrations in urine in less than 10 minutes. The test is used to detect early signs of kidney damage, especially in people who are at risk of developing kidney disease or have a family history of kidney disease.
Albumin normally occurs in urine in small amounts or in such small amounts that it is not even detectable. With kidney diseases, one can sometimes lose more albumin than normal through urine. A high albumin level indicates dysfunction of the kidneys' filtering function and can be a sign of disease or injury in the kidneys or urinary tract. The most common diseases that lead to albumin in urine are urinary tract infections or pyelonephritis. The first sign that diabetic kidney disease is developing is usually the protein albumin being excreted in the urine.

Albumin is a protein substance produced in the liver that is responsible for transporting various substances and proteins in the body, including hormones, vitamins, and enzymes. Albumin also helps to bind water in the blood so that it does not leave the blood vessels and instead ends up in tissues and risks causing swelling, known as oedema.
Our kidney test is a self-test that you can easily perform at home. A first-morning urine sample is recommended. Collect urine in the urine cup provided. Dip the test strip in the urine for about 5-10 seconds. Then place the test strip on a flat and dry surface. You can read the result after just 5 minutes. The urine test strip has a test field that changes colour if there is an increased level of the protein albumin in the urine. To read the result, compare the intensity of the lines with the accompanying instruction manual.
The concentration in the first-morning urine is generally higher. For that reason, first-morning urine is recommended as it enables the best result. However, our test can be used at any time of the day.
If the result is positive, it means that the test has detected concentrations over 20 mg/l of albumin in your urine. This may be temporary and transient. Therefore, repeat the test with a new strip after a few days. If this test also shows a positive result, you should contact a doctor.
This result means that the test has detected an albumin level that is higher than 10 mg/l but below 20 mg/l. This result does not require further investigation, but new tests should be done continuously.
The albumin level is influenced by many different factors and can therefore change rapidly depending on how we are feeling. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes or heart failure, it may be useful to test the albumin level more often. If you are healthy, have a normal diet, and are not on any medication, testing albumin in conjunction with other tests is sufficient to monitor your health development over time.
Yes, intensive physical exercise increases albumin levels.
Yes, if you have a fever, infection, or during pregnancy. These conditions increase albumin levels.
Excessive fluid consumption can give a so-called false negative result. A false positive result can occur with insufficient fluid intake. Therefore, drink normally.
The Quicktest kidney test is very reliable. It is used by various healthcare institutions. Studies show a reliability of approximately 88%. Although the test is considered reliable, false positive and false negative results can occur.
