Tetanus Vaccination Protection

Product Description

Are you protected against tetanus?

The fact is that many people do not know. This test determines if you have a sufficient amount of specific antibodies against tetanus, that is, adequate vaccination protection against tetanus. Tetanus is a very serious wound infection disease that can lead to a long hospital stay with subsequent illnesses that can be directly life-threatening. Untreated tetanus infection is very serious.

The test is intended for those who want to find out if they need a booster dose of the tetanus vaccine. The Swedish Public Health Agency recommends that adults who have been vaccinated take a booster dose every 20 years. Many other European countries recommend a booster dose every 10 years.

Why test your vaccination protection against tetanus?

Since tetanus does not provide any immunity, vaccination is the only way to prevent the disease. The vaccination protection is checked by measuring the concentration of anti-tetanus antibodies from a blood sample. Quicktest self-test for tetanus vaccination protection is a simple but effective rapid test to assess whether your vaccination protection against tetanus is adequate or not. A negative result means that there are no (or innsufficient) anti-tetanus antibodies and therefore you have no protection against tetanus. You should consult a doctor or vaccination clinic to receive a tetanus vaccination and rebuild your protection.

What is tetanus and what causes it?

Tetanus is caused by a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium tetani. The bacteria occur in the digestive tract of animals, in animal faeces, and in soil, specially cultivated soil. If you get a wound, this bacteria can enter the body and cause symptoms such as painful, spasmodic muscle contractions and spasms. Tetanus cases can occur despite the absence of visible wounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the test work?

There is protection in the body against tetanus when the antibodies, which have been created by the immune system from a previous vaccination, are present in the blood in sufficient amounts. The Quicktest self-test for tetanus vaccination protection measures these specific antibodies and shows a positive result if they are present in sufficient amounts (>0.1 IU/ml as determined by W.H.O.*).

When should the test be performed?

The test can be performed at any time of the day. The immune protection from the vaccination is effective for about 10 years. This test can be used to check that the protection from the vaccination is still effective (even a few years after vaccination) or to check the vaccination protection in connection with an acute injury a few hours after the accident.

What should I do if the test is positive?

If the result is positive, it means that the antibodies against tetanus toxin are present in sufficient amounts to ensure protection in case of injury. It is recommended to perform the test regularly if the vaccination was done more than 5 years ago.

What should I do if the test is negative?

If the result is negative, it means that there is no protection against tetanus and you need to get vaccinated. In case of a wound injury, you may receive tetanus prophylaxis. It is recommended that you contact your doctor or responsible healthcare personnel for an assessment if relevant.

The Doctor Says...

In general, protection against the bacterium Clostridium Tetani is good in Sweden due to a national vaccination program. Protection against tetanus is very good after basic vaccination that occurs early after birth. A booster dose is recommended at the age of 5 and at 14-15 years of age. After that, it is wise to have booster doses every 20 years. It is worth mentioning that many European countries recommend booster doses every 10 years.
