Do you have discomfort or pain in the lower part of your abdomen and need to urinate frequently? Do you experience a burning sensation when urinating? Do you feel like you need to urinate again shortly after going to the bathroom with only a small amount of urine coming out? If so, you may have a urinary tract infection. This home test gives you an immediate answer - simply urinate in a plastic cup and dip the test strip, and the result will appear within a minute. A clear colour change occurs on the test strip when leukocytes, nitrite, or blood are detected in your urine. Symptoms may improve without treatment, but if you do not get better within a week, you should seek medical attention. Note that our urinary tract infection test is not a diagnostic test, but only a guide for further medical contact. Regardless of the results, always contact a doctor if you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Anyone with a suspected urinary tract infection should always be evaluated and treated.
If bacteria enter the urethra and bladder, they can cause an infection in the urinary tract, also known as a UTI or cystitis. Women are much more likely to be affected by this infection than men because the female urethra is shorter, making it easier for bacteria to reach the bladder. More than half of all women will experience a urinary tract infection at some point in their lives, and the risk increases significantly after menopause. In older men, difficulty urinating or urinating in small amounts may be a sign of prostate problems. Men with prostate problems are at higher risk of developing urinary tract infections.

Urinary tract infection is very common and is caused by bacteria (usually Escherichia coli) that reside in the perineum and have entered the urinary tract via the urethra. The risk of urinary tract infection increases due to:
Pregnant women have a slightly higher risk of urinary tract infections, partly due to hormonal changes that affect the woman's mucosal defences. Having an untreated urinary tract infection during pregnancy is not good, as it can lead to, among other things, kidney infection. Having an untreated infection can also increase the number of contractions, which can trigger premature labour. Therefore, UTI (urinary tract infection) during pregnancy should always be treated. If you suspect you have a urinary tract infection, talk to your midwife or contact a doctor immediately.
How does your urinary tract infection test work?
Any colour change except the colour indicating negative should be considered positive. Please refer to the colour chart in the accompanying instructions. Regardless of the result, always contact a doctor if you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection.
Urinary tract infections can affect both men and women, although the majority of cases occur in women. It is particularly important that pregnant women receive prompt treatment for urinary tract infections. Common symptoms include a burning sensation in the vagina and frequent urination. It is also common to experience abdominal pain and a feeling of coldness. Repeated urinary tract infections, especially in older women, should be checked for possible undiagnosed diabetes.
