Our vitamin D test measures the levels of vitamin D in the blood and is suitable for those who want to know if they have a vitamin D deficiency.
A lack of vitamin D can cause serious conditions, especially if the deficiency has persisted for a longer period of time. By detecting low vitamin D levels at an early stage, further medical examination and medication can be taken to avoid serious health complications.

If so, you're not alone. Nearly two-thirds of Europe's population has insufficient levels of vitamin D in their bodies. This fat-soluble vitamin is important for a variety of functions in the body and is responsible for increasing the intestinal absorption of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate, and zinc. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system, muscles, and bones. It also has links to your mental health. A deficiency in vitamin D can cause serious conditions, especially if the deficiency has been present for a long period of time. The Quicktest D-vitamin self-test is used to detect levels of 5-OH-D-vitamin in the blood. The test indicates a positive result for vitamin D deficiency if your vitamin D levels are below 30 ng/ml.
During the winter months when the sun is low in our northern latitudes, our bodies are unable to produce vitamin D on their own through sunlight. This increases the risk of developing vitamin D deficiency. You can also develop vitamin D deficiency if you have a disease that makes it difficult for the intestine to absorb nutrients, or if you have a very monotonous diet. Vegans and other people who do not eat fish or fortified foods are easily susceptible to vitamin D deficiency if supplements are not taken.
Vitamin D deficiency in adults is a condition that develops over a long period of time. Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are often indistinct and may include general fatigue, depression, weakness, muscle weakness/cramps, digestive problems, and headaches. A deficiency in vitamin D can cause serious conditions, especially if the deficiency has been present for a long period of time. If there is too little vitamin D, the uptake of calcium in the body is inhibited, which in turn affects the bone tissue of the skeleton. Severe vitamin D deficiency can cause symptoms such as softer or more brittle bones, also known as osteoporosis. Children are particularly vulnerable to vitamin D deficiency as their bones need vitamin D to develop properly.
Low levels of vitamin D can also lead to premature birth, increased risk of pre-eclampsia, and lower birth weight.

A vitamin D test can be useful for almost everyone in Northern Europe since in these geographic areas it can be difficult to get enough vitamin D solely through sunlight. The test is particularly suitable if you experience the symptoms described above, spend little time outdoors in sunlight, are over 60 years of age or older, or suffer from intestinal diseases such as celiac disease or Crohn's disease.
The sun's UV radiation allows the skin to produce vitamin D, but during autumn and winter, the sun's rays are not strong enough for the body to produce vitamin D. The vitamin is stored in the body, and what has been produced by the sun during the summer can sometimes cover some of the needs during the winter. However, it is highly individual how long the "vitamin store" lasts, and therefore, it may be appropriate to test your vitamin D levels already during the autumn.
Vitamin D deficiency is also linked to intestinal diseases, such as leaky gut and celiac disease (gluten sensitivity). Therefore, people who have problems with the digestive system may benefit from testing themselves even during spring and summer.
Our vitamin D deficiency test is a self-test that you can easily perform at home. Using a lancet and a pipette (included in the test kit), you take a few drops of blood from your fingertip and place them on the included test cassette. The blood is analyzed, and after 10 minutes, you can read the result. If your vitamin D level is below 30 ng/mL, the test will show a positive result, confirming that you have a vitamin D deficiency.
The Quicktest vitamin D deficiency test has no age limit, but a self-test is not suitable for use on children under 3 years of age. This is not due to reliability but due to the procedure for collecting blood. If your child is under 3 years of age, you should contact healthcare.
Studies show a reliability of 100% for results that are lower than 30 ng/mL.
