What is analysed?

Wheat f4

Wheat is analysed as a whole food and is a common cause of food allergy.

Gliadin f98

Gliadin is a protein fraction in gluten. The analysis measures IgE to gliadin and is not a test for coeliac disease.

Omega-5 gliadin f416

Omega-5 gliadin is the marker for wheat-dependent exercise-induced allergy, where a reaction occurs when exercising after eating wheat.

What does sensitisation mean?

Detectable specific IgE indicates sensitisation, but does not automatically mean that exposure causes clinical allergy symptoms. The result must always be considered alongside symptoms and actual exposure.

Omega-5 gliadin and exercise

In wheat-dependent exercise-induced allergy, wheat alone is tolerated but physical activity within a few hours of a meal triggers a reaction. Omega-5 gliadin is the marker used to investigate this and is not included in an ordinary wheat test.

How this differs from coeliac disease

This test measures IgE antibodies associated with allergy. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition investigated with different tests, and you need to keep eating gluten during the investigation. A negative result here therefore does not rule out coeliac disease.
